This year's Yakima Town Hall lecture series gets off to a big start Wednesday with speaker Cokie Roberts, an ABC News reporter and commentator who also serves as an analyst for National Public Radio.
Over a decades-long career, she has served as a congressional correspondent, co-hosted a weekly ABC news show and reported on a range of events including the Iran-Contra affair and the 2008 presidential election. She also is a syndicated columnist and author.
Having won three Emmys and been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, Roberts more recently has turned to writing. Her books "Founding Mothers" and "Ladies of Liberty" focus on the unsung women who helped build America, while "From This Day Forward" and "We Are Our Mothers' Daughters" are more personal works.
Tickets for the 11 a.m. lectures at the Capitol Theatre are available only as a series. The price is $75. For more information, visit www.yakimatownhall.com/tickets.html. The other speakers between now and April are author and scholar Elliot Engel, journalist and human-rights advocate Kati Marton, and positive psychology expert Shawn Achor.
